A: I have a question on educational exchanges. In your speech you have mentioned that there are a large number of Chinese students studying in the UK. However, it is very difficult to apply scholarship from universities of UK. Furthermore, many Uk universities charge a lot more tuition fees from international students compared with UK students. So I am wondering the motivation of universities of UK in terms of recruiting Chinese students. Do they want to do it to promote exchanges with China and add warming atmosphere to campus or from commercial perspectives? Thanks
B: 其實(shí)都有涉及。我并不否認(rèn)商業(yè)角度的動(dòng)機(jī)，因?yàn)檫@些大學(xué)不能賠本運(yùn)營。但我認(rèn)為教育交流是主要的動(dòng)機(jī)。說到獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金難申請(qǐng)是因?yàn)樗鼈儊碜杂谡馁Y助。民眾可能會(huì)對(duì)政府說：你們應(yīng)該為我們本國學(xué)生而不是留學(xué)生買單。但是我們還是在不斷擴(kuò)大獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金項(xiàng)目，事實(shí)也證明了這一點(diǎn)。我認(rèn)為過去幾年來，我們已經(jīng)增加了中國留學(xué)生獲得獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金的人數(shù)，因此雖然得到獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金不容易，但是事在人為。另外教育交流對(duì)未來是非常非常重要的，因?yàn)槲視?huì)設(shè)想每一名在英國的留學(xué)生，回到中國或俄羅斯以及其他國家能成為英國大使。因此我們也在擴(kuò)充大學(xué)規(guī)模，以招收更多留學(xué)生。你們放心申請(qǐng)獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金吧，我們也會(huì)盡力。

But I feel sorry to hear that some universities in northeast UK have cancelled majors such as Chinese language and culture, even including some famous universities such as Durham University. Do you think that the educational exchanges and cooperation between China and UK will be impacted by these decisions? If so, are there any solutions?
